A-Level — Francisca Filipa

This section marks the beginning of my journey into photography. During my A-levels, I explored and experimented, building a strong foundation for my creative growth. These projects allowed me to try out framing devices, directing subjects, composition, and color palettes. I also dabbled in portraits, global issues, nature photography, macro shots, and still life. It was a time of learning and discovery, where I began to find my footing in the art of photography

This project was one of my first, titled "Portraits" .

I quickly understood I enjoyed close up personal portraits.

Some goofy, while others were an attempt to add an extra story telling layer.

I enjoyed working with color pallets and making visually consistent images.

During my A level days we did a lot of field trips to potentially capture images we could use for ongoing projects or later ones.

These images don't have a theme or reason to be grouped together except the fact they were all taken on the same day.

I decided to include this collection here because although these pictures don't have an imposed theme, they naturally have me, the photographer as the common denominator.

My understanding of the rule of thirds to ensure a balanced image with clear framing like here.

I like to focus on elements that are pleasing to the eye such as repetition and symmetry.

Another example of my appreciation for the composition of the image.

Layers and framing devices! I love them and think they are essential.

Not a great picture but the idea behind it is what interests me. The attempt to use the reflection of the lights in the water to create an eye catching picture.

Color palette, Repetition and leading lines are what make this picture. I love the feel this picture has.

Although the subject isn't in the best pose for the picture, it is satisfying to have such stark colors or should I say shades make up the image. I saw this as a great opportunity.

This was the first time I explored editorial photography. I focused on how to create a story by creating all the aspects of the image. This is the final product: a shiny textured background to mimic the seabed, a blue acrylic sheet to add the underwa

I also found a passion for prop making. I came up with the concept of a dolphin built with straws and glitter glue (the main evils contributing to the pollution crisis at that point, supposedly ) as the subject and created it myself.

In an attempt to make a project with Global Warming awareness. I grew fond of not only controlling the photographical elements such as lighting or composition...

The purpose of this Project was to showcase emotions. I have taken a few snippets and included them here. These showcase the change between happy and non happy expressions. This was my first taste of directing my subjects. I learnt to use verbal and

Or an athlete in their stride.

Capturing someone else's moment became an idea I have only but grown fonder of as the years have gone by.

The location of these is Kew Gardens. The perfect spot for nature photography.

My focus was the composition of the image to enhance the subject.

Playing with framing devices and dimensions.

I encountered issues which turned into pleasant surprises. The heat from the green house fogged my lens which gave my subject an almost translucent feel.

Colors were able to pop and almost giving the picture an added texture.
